VIEWERS' COMMENTS

The results you got are great, the clarity of your DVD is awesome.
Chris Ruf

You have done a wonderful job on it, and it is a pleasure to watch.
George Moffat

Great Film! Probably the best ever in giving viewers the "feel" of flying gliders.
William Thar

I enjoyed the video thoroughly, watched it twice and even my wife
enjoyed it. Always knew Karl was a renaissance man! (whistling
Mozart's Magical Flute, while soaring.)
Gary Kemp

This film really captures the joy of soaring in general and the joy of
soaring the Pennsylvania ridges in particular. Excellent work.
Jack Wyman

Thanks a lot for your very quick service and an absolutely wonderful film. I haven't counted how many times I've been watching the DVD since receiving it, but every time I watch it, I'm still able to learn from it and make note of new things I'll like to try out for my self... Can't wait... :-))
And then I haven't even mentioned the beautiful and stunning pictures or the perfect and very high technical quality. It is a real pleasure to watch, and by far the best film or feature about soaring I've ever seen! Please receive my very sincere thanks for a beautiful film!!!
Christian Larsen (Denmark)

I love this movie. It really captures the general feel and highs and lows of a regional contest. Well done Juan!
Paul Remde

This film does a great job of showing what we do and why we
do it - really conveys the fun we have. I'm buying a handful
of copies to give out to people who express interest in soaring
(along with a prepaid return-addressed envelope). We need to
bring more people into our sport and perhaps this will help.
Dave Nadler

I have just returned from the SSA Convention in Atlanta, where I had the pleasure of viewing the new film, A FINE WEEK OF SOARING, an excellent movie! Beautiful photography and music. Honest to God, there's something for everyone in this movie. I have already showed it to a couple of non-flying friends and they where educated and delighted while watching it. Even their young son delighted in the "video-like" flight representations of the SeeYou flight analysis software. Mr. Mandelbaum has done a great service to the soaring fraternity and judging by the number of others who gave him a standing ovation, I was not alone in my appreciation. If you are one of those people interested in promoting and growing our sport, buy this movie for yourself AND your friends.
John Wujack

Definitely worth the investment, not only for showing people what competition flying and ridge soaring is all about, but also a great way to spend the time while waiting for winter to leave the northern hemisphere. Now if I could only learn to whistle some Mozart while staring at the trees racing by, then I think I would have it all figured out!!
Dirk Elber

STUNNING STUFF!! I had the privilege of flying from Tom Knauff’s site in 1978 whilst serving on HMS Ark Royal III and had a wonderful time. We flew those ridges for a period of several weeks and it was the most immense fun I have ever had with my clothes on. (Sad Bastard) Thanks for your prompt response and fast delivery,
Yours delighted beyond belief,
JLJ Smith (UK)

My order has arrived and the DVD quality is spectacular. Congratulations on a great product and thanks for all the work.
Paul Cordell

I remember when you were filming at Mifflin last year and was particularly anxious to see the film. My first time free to see it was Sunday morning at around 6am. Loved it. When Hank got up and came out to the kitchen, he of course sat to watch. We were enthralled. And, when the guys were at the house to work on a 2-33 in our shop, they watched it at lunch. This was quite funny - a group of glider pilots who say "we will just watch a few minutes" and then stayed to watch the entire film. I am sure we will be ordering more copies to give away.
It really gave the feel of a contest. I particularly liked the SeeYou parts thrown in as they made it clear for a non-pilot (I am commercial glider rated). We will have fun showing this to lots of interested parties. Thanks again for such a wonderful film.
Dianne Black-Nixon

Congratulations on the wonderful production. Pat and I enjoyed it a lot, and not just ‘cos we were ‘featured’. Were we members of the Academy, you would be receiving nominations for best photography, best writing, best editing, best score and best narration. Of course, we are not members.
Phil Gaisford

Overall, a great video and one that I'm sure will now contend for most watched in our home (maybe it will even unseat current champion "Finding Nemo" that my 3 and 5 year old enjoy so well).
Bob Mowry

DVD arrived today, I have already viewed it twice! Excellent work, thanks for putting forth such a great effort!
Mark Navarre

Thank you Juan. You’ve done a marvelous job. The camera placement, flying, scenery and music are spectacular. But putting Karl in the front seat was brilliant! He’s a great pilot, and he’s funnier than the dickens! Best of luck,
Tim, Lynn and Megan Gossfeld

Thanks for making such a great movie. It’s nice to show people what goes on up there in the sky.
John Seaborn

Great job! I am new to the sport but I think everything from the subject matter, photography, narrative, glider and music was awesome. It must have been a great experience for you also. Love to know how you mounted all those cameras in the glider. Thanks.
Hal Chouinard

It’s great! Karl on the ridge: "No I just don’t wan’t to break the wings off" how great a quote is that! Really nice job, Juan.
Happy landings from Denmark.
Jan Fahlgren

THE FILM IS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Juan and Karl have created a masterpiece of a film. It kept me glued, mouth agape, to the TV. You have created an absolutely glorious film! Ok, it wasn't ALL POWERFUL because my wife was unmoved. She has the opinion that gliders are a complete waste of time (yes, so what's her point?). BUT I LOVED IT! It is a wonderful work!
Ray Lovinggood

Congratulation with the fine result of your DVD. I am impressed of the fine quallity of the film settings. You have also captured many good details and advice which one can actually learn something about ridge soaring from. How to observe birds and weather developement. It is obvious Karl knows his stuff. The computer animation is great. I can almost feel the good atmosphere among the people at the airfield. I will spread the word among soaring friends.
Christian Schlichtkrull (Denmark)

Just got mine Monday- took 2 weeks. Done 3 viewings so far. I've already got several friends that want to borrow it --non soaring friends to boot! We have a winner here!
Larry Johnson

I received my DVD yesterday and I watched it last night. Very quick
service, no complaints. Great Job! I thoroughly enjoyed this. Your commentary is excellent. I can't wait for you to make another film like this.
Dan Rihn

I originally was going to show just the practice day and the first contest day at the club banquet, because I didn't think the total audience, i.e. non flying spouses, would sit through the entire show. I was wrong! They loved it. One of the most beautiful flying videos I have seen. Congratulations.
Richard Pearl

The film was the best soaring movie I have ever bought. Nice storyline and fantastic angles on the camera!! Even my mother and father were sooooo into the movie!!!! I will give the link to my soaring friends!!!
Alexander Hauge (Norway)

First, thanks for the speedy delivery. I received the DVD yesterday and, yes, we watched it last night. What a brilliant film, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Although we don't fly any longer, my husband was a UK Nationals pilot and just seeing the grid brought back many memories, and like you say at each comp it's like meeting family again. The flying sequences were great and don't you just love the sound of the vario beeping lift!
Jenni Stewart (UK)

What a wonderful production. I intend to show it to many people.
Last night I made my wife watch it so she could experience the thrill of ridge running. She has been to many contests with me but only knows the boring routine at the airport. Thanks to you she now has a better understanding of the real excitement of contest flying.
Wally Moran

I really enjoyed your film. It is fascinating to compare the real flight with the recorded flight in SeeYou. Your film shows the continuous decisions of a champion and his effort of will not to give up and to finish a competition successfully.
Robert Koch (Switzerland)

I watched your movie and enjoyed it very much. I bought it because cross country is my next goal in soaring and I thought it could educate me. By the way, since here we fly only thermals, it was surprising to me to see that in ridge soaring you fly so low and close to the surface.
Ariel Kornmehl (Israel)

A FINE WEEK OF SOARING is great, I really enjoyed it (including my wife who is not a pilot, she rarely sits through soaring movies.) I say this on a very positive note because you have done it in such a way that it is very informative and enjoyable for the non-pilot while communicating well to the experienced pilot who can relate to it, it is a great DVD. Cheers,
Al Sim (Australia)

Watched the movie Saturday afternoon, and just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed it. It's wonderfully done and probably the best soaring video I've seen, from the photography to the writing to the editing. So, congratulations, and thanks!
Erik Nelson

Congratulations on putting together a great video on our sport - I think I am wearing out the DVD already. At last I am able to show non-gliding friends the sport we enjoy so much! The flying days show in all senses the highs and lows of cross-country soaring and George Moffat is still an inspiration.
Roger Davis (UK)

What a pleasure! What a fine piece of work! Five stars, two thumbs up, a must see, etc. etc.
Paul Acres

Your film was the after dinner entertainment at our ski club on Saturday night. The crowd of non-flyers were pinned to their seats for the entire movie. The end result is a long list of friends who are suddenly interested in a Duo ride! The non-soaring comment most repeated by the viewers revolved around the quality of the filming. I felt like Warren Miller narrating his films in the sixties to rooms full of skiers, great fun.
Bill Brine

It was an absolute joy! My compliments on an excellent film.
Piet Koornhof (South Africa)

I would like to let you know that is a most well put together
video complete with fantastic graphics! You have done a most outstanding job producing this video and now all I want to do is go soaring! Awesome!!
Ed Holland

It's a wonderful video, you've done a terrific job, what an opportunity to fly with some of the legends! I have no doubt I will watch this video hundreds of times, sharing it with friends and family, gaining inspiration every time I watch it. I am going to watch it again tonight after the wife goes to bed! Many thanks for putting this together, and contributing to the soaring community.
Jon Russell

Wonderful film, very professional, good music and I'm learning a lot from the Master!! Karl doesn't say too much but what he does say is pure gold! A GOOD JOB, congratulations. Thanks again for a fantastic film and the quick dispatch.
Roland J. Clarke

I am sure you will be inundated with messages of congratulation regarding your superb film. I bought a copy at the British Gliding Association Conference in Nottingham recently and have watched it with rapt attention several times over since. Once again, congratulations on a really stunning film! You have re-kindled my long-held ambition to fly the Allegheny ridges myself.
Blue skies and tailwinds!
Kevin Moloney (UK)

Received the video... very well done! Soaring is an activity that is very hard to understand for those that don't participate. Your film does an excellent job of putting the viewer "there". The production quality, both audio and video, are excellent as well. Good work!
Randy Lervold

Outstanding job. This video captures the essence of soaring; the beauty, challenge and exhilaration of motorless flight. It is a video that I intend to share with my non-flying friends so they too might realize what a wonderful sport soaring is.
Gary Nelson

Congratulations on A FINE WEEK OF SOARING. My wife and kids are a little surprised that I've watched it so many times since I received it a few weeks ago, but you've really captured the thrill of those quintessential moments, and put it out there for all of us to enjoy. Thank you.
Andy Martin

I really, really enjoyed your film. Watching your film - I was holding my breath and my heart was racing during the first scenes of you and Karl on the ridge on the practice day. My wife has finally seen what I have talked about for so many years, and hope to get back into after I retire.
